Many people that will call at your home will be genuine, but you should always be aware when someone you do not know calls at your door unannounced.

  • Bogus callers/Distraction burglars may be smartly dressed and claim to be from the local council, your energy supplier or a water company etc.

  • They may offer deals to buy your jewellery, antiques or furniture at what seems to be a fair price, but it could be that it is a lot less than the item is actually worth. Many of these will be operating at present because of the recession, and with Christmas fast approaching – many people are after the extra cash!

  • Be aware of any callers that try and distract you by claiming they have seen something in another room at the back of your house etc, they are appearing to be concerned for you, where as all they want is you out of their way.

The best home security measure you can take to give you peace of mind would be,

  • Fitting and using a door chain. This will be able to help you check who the caller is before you open the door, and if they cannot produce identification you do not let them in.

Keep yourself and your home safe – If In Doubt, Keep Them Out!
