Internet Shopping For Burglars

Internet Shopping For Burglars

In recent months it has become quite apparent that although the Internet gives people the means to communicate quickly and easily, Social Networking Sites such as Facebook and Twitter could lead to you being burgled!

Communicating via the Internet can give people an artificial feeling of safety but the reality is you are leaving yourself at risk of being a victim of crime in the real world.

Both Facebook and Twitter have millions of users and a staggering amount of these post extremely personal information across the site, many even have their home addresses and phone numbers on their profiles. Then an update appears along the lines of “Hurrah, flying out to Spain in the morning, two weeks in the Sun, See you all soon”! This sort of comment is lovely for family and friends and is absolutely fantastic information for an “Internet Burglar”.

You wouldn’t tell a stranger that you met in the street that your house was going to be empty for two weeks, yet millions of people but it across to a global audience.

Just be extremely cautious as to what information you are putting on internet sites as Criminals can and will put together a jigsaw and use it for Identity theft or Burglary, and they do it from the comfort of their sofa. It really can be as dangerous as leaving your front door wide open with a sign stating “We’re away for two weeks. Come and help yourselves”!

Now the warmer weather is creeping in, you may be thinking towards weekend breaks away or holidays. Please be sure that your home insurance is up to date and that all locks that secure your property are British Standard Insurance Approved Locks. This is essential, as if the worst was to happen and your locks are not up to this standard, your insurance will be invalid.

Please call us on 0800 035 045 1 for all your locksmith needs. We have emergency locksmiths on call 24 hours.
